The RCI Habitat Plan (1996) shows the original vision of the waterways and turtle habitat. Construction of the interconnecting ponds and landscaping, using the limestone removed when the ponds were dug, was completed in 2012. Set-aside areas for tortoise habitats are indicated. The habitat on the lower left is where the Box Turtle Project was built in 2018. The habitat in the lower middle is where the Texas Gopher Tortoise Project was constructed (2019-2020). All of the ponds are home to local native fish and turtles.
