Diego arrived at RCI in May 2021. The Devitt family (Tom, Susan, Hattie, Will, and Rob) found Diego in Redbud Park in Austin and contacted TPWD who put them in touch with RCI. We were delighted to get such a huge adult male, who will play a key role in the mate choice work. Upon arrival, Diego was so strong that he managed to loosen one of the fences around his territory, allowing the young female from the next-door pen (Gopher) to get in! That fence is now reinforced and Diego has made himself at home, eating cactus pads and digging a pallet.
