Blair arrived at RCI in June, 2020. She was found in the Blair Woods Sanctuary, a nature preserve in Austin, TX run by the Travis Audubon Society.
Austin is not a part of the Texas gopher tortoise’s home range, and Blair must have been someone’s pet because she was daubed with blue nail polish. Chris Murray, the curator of the preserve, contacted Parks and Wildlife, and Chris and his wife Julie delivered Blair to RCI. Blair is living in the juvenile pen. Blair has a unique appearance, with her carapace quite lumpy compared to the other tortoises. She is one of the feistier tortoises and goes on the occasional adventure.
