Chula is a large adult female, who lived with the Estrada family (Melissa, Adolfo, Lulu) in San Antonio for 18 years. They learned in Spring 2021 that it is not legal to keep a Texas tortoise as a pet. They reached out to TPWD who arranged the intake with RCI. It was clear when we received her that Chula was a much-loved tortoise, but she made the transition to RCI very smoothly. She likes to hang out with the other tortoises, which is very interesting since she never had any prior contact with other tortoises. Chula will be the biggest female in the mate choice study.
